Job Position: Payroll Specialist
Location: Pontiac, MI 48342
Pay Rate: $30.00/hr
Shift: 8am to 4pm or 8am to 5pm – Onsite
As our Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for a comprehensive range of payroll duties, including:

Processing bi-weekly payroll with precision and efficiency.

Managing associated reconciliations, updates, and tax form preparation.

Handling hourly timesheet processing.

Managing employee payroll data and status changes.
-
Processing all payroll liabilities, including federal, state, and local taxes, garnishments, and withholdings.

Reconciling Office of Retirement Services (ORS) records with payroll deduction reports.

Maintaining and updating crucial payroll software tables.
-
Ensuring the accuracy and compliance of employee tax and retirement records.
-
Verifying and uploading the Michigan Employment Security Commission (MESC) file quarterly.

Preparing and submitting accurate quarterly reports (e.g., Form 941).

Demonstrating system operations and internal controls to auditors.
-
Providing training to employees on attendance policies, timesheet reporting, and Employee Self Service (ESS) software.

Responding to employee payroll inquiries and assisting colleagues with payroll-related questions.

Preparing and reconciling annual W2 forms accurately and on time.

Maintaining organized payroll files in accordance with regulations and retention schedules.

Preparing various financial reports (bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).

Assisting with information requests (FOIA, ORS audits, workers’ compensation audits).

Prefers retirement and garnishment experience.
Beyond Payroll:
To foster a well-rounded and cross-trained team, this role will also involve training and providing support in the following areas, ensuring proper segregation of duties:

Accounts Payable: Assisting with the processing and management of invoices and payments.

Accounts Receivable: Supporting the tracking and collection of payments.

Purchasing: Contributing to the procurement of necessary goods and services.

A minimum of 4 years of experience in payroll processing (preferred).

Strong preference for experience with school payroll.

Experience with retirement and garnishment processing.
-
Proficiency in B-Plus (preferred).

Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
-
A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
